1. Patch angioplasty or eversion endarterectomy is recommended over primary closure to reduce the early and late complications of CEA (Grade 1, Level A).
2. Use of an embolic protection device (proximal or distal occlusion, distal filter) is recommended during CAS to reduce the risk of cerebral embolization (Grade 1, Level B).
