TOE is better than non-gated CT for
- Location of the entry tear
- Identification of aortic regurgitation mechanisms, and
- assessment of false lumen flow.
Echo contrast with may be helpful to
- Clarify artefacts by intraluminal reverberations,
- Detect entry tears not identified without contrast by showing early arrival of contrast into the false lumen
(see Supplementary Video material)
- Identify retrograde or antegrade flow in the false lumen
- Distinguish the true and false lumen in cases where systolic expansion of the true lumen is not clear cut.
