- Asymptomatic diastolic BP ≥ 130 mmHg
- Severe elevations of BP in the setting of any of:
- Hypertensive encephalopathy
- Acute aortic dissection
- Acute left ventricular failure
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Acute kidney injury
- Intracranial hemorrhage
- Acute ischemic stroke
- Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia
- Catecholamine-associated hypertension
