Expert opinion regarding the clinical use of a NOAC in relation to the following commonly encountered scenarios: Would you consider NOAC use to be: (1) contraindicated or (2) not contraindicated (ie, reasonable to use) with the following valvular disorders?
NOAC use is contraindicated
  1. Mechanical heart valves (in any position)
  2. Rheumatic mitral stenosis (any degree)
  3. Non-rheumatic mitral stenosis (moderate or severe)
NOAC use is reasonable
  1. Bioprosthetic heart valve (in any position)
  2. Mitral annuloplasty
  3. Non-Rheumatic mitral stenosis (mild)
  4. Mitral Regurgitation
  5. Tricuspid Regurgitation
  6. Aortic Stenosis or Regurgitation
