Newly diagnosed AF
AF is first detected.
Paroxysmal
AF is self-terminating within 7 days of recognized onset.
Persistent
AF is not self-terminating within 7 days or is terminated electrically or pharmacologically.
Permanent
AF in which cardioversion has failed or in which clinical judgment has led to a decision not to pursue cardioversion.
